Time in Cell

Cells are 8X10 feet and there is a mattress with space for storage underneath. There is a wall shelf as well as a small desk. There is a stainless steel toilet and sink with a mirror above it.The windows in the cells are 6 inches X 3 feet wide. Some cells face brick walls, while others can face greenery or residential lights.

Culture

Inmates have access to books and may purchase colored pencils and composition notebooks.

Healthcare

Inmates pay a copay of $7 for emergency calls and $5 for sick calls.Typically one nurse is on duty daily and doctos visit once a week. Mental Health visits are allowed if needed, and medication is distributed accordingly.

Food

Men on death row eat 3 meals a day;  4:30am, 10:30am, and 4:30pm. Typical meals include fruit cocktails, vegetables, and processed meat and bread. Inmates are allowed to purchase items such as: cookies, cakes, and sandwiches from the commissary.

Visitation

Visitations are held in a small private room with a small window. The small room is divided with a wall. Visitation is non-contact with a double layer glass and chicken wire in between. 

Inmates can recive visits once a week and allotted 2 hours or 4 hours if out of state. 18 people are allowed on the visitation list.

Educational Programs

There are no educational programs but some inmates have been sponsored and have college courses sent in.

Recreation

Recreation time is allowed 1 hour a day outside, but due to short staffing, rec opportunites are allowed approximately 3 times a week. The recreation space is a the size of a soccerr field, and inmates may play basketball, volleyball, chess, and cornhole.

Attorney Visits

Attorney visits are scheduled for certain days for a 2 hour window. The setting for the attorny visits is the same as the visitation rooms. Inmates on death row may contact their attorneys via a tablet which is

monitored. 

Work

Inmates can work in the clothes house, canteen, as a janitor, a barber, and in the library.

Communications

Men on Death Row have tablets from 8:30am - 10pm, and may make as many phone calls as they can purchase. Phonce calls are 15 minutes and may make the call from any area.
